Fire Operational Permits are required under the California Fire Code section 105.5. Fire Operational permits, when issued, allows the applicant to conduct the operation for a period of 12 months (permits shall be renewed annually) or for a limited time dictated on the permit.
The Fire Operational Permits have been established to provide a focused survey and inspection of the operation and/or building/area, to help ensure minimum fire and life safety requirements are maintained at an acceptable level.

When are Operational Permits required?
| A Fire Operational Permit applies to all operations that fall under the required operational permit of CFC Section 105, and related procedures at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and its leased facilities. Fire Operational Permit examples that may occur at LBNL: • Fueling- Portable and stationary (B 76) • Fire Hydrant usage- Non fire suppression. Example using a backflow device on a construction project, or for a hot work operation. • Oven/Furnace usage. • Occupancies over 50 people for an event or meeting. • Occupancies over 1000 for an event of meeting. • Tent structures or membranes over 400 sq. feet in size (multiple tents placed together could also trigger a permit) • Hot work falls under Fire Operational Permits, but is already controlled under the Hot Work program, but we may modify this in the future. • Food truck permits. We are currently providing permits for all food trucks on site. |
