EAA Background
Evacuation Assembly Areas (EAAs) are predesignated waiting areas, where people can congregate after evacuating a building. Being in one location makes it easier to communicate with first responders, however, memorizing an EAA location is not as important as learning when to evacuate and how to do it safely.
Evacuees should:
- Move away from the building and away from fire department connections and hydrants
- Watch out for hazards including vehicle traffic, uneven walking surfaces, and smoke (stay upwind)
- Not reenter a building until given the all clear by first responders
If you have any questions regarding evacuation assembly areas, please email us at emergencymanagement@lbl.gov.
EAA Review
As part of the Community Preparedness Framework, LBNL’s SES Division formed a cross-functional team to review and update the Lab’s EAAs. You can read more about the review and planned changes here.
As of October 2025 EAAs are in the process of being updated.
