In 2019, DOE required LBNL to add expiration dates to our LBNL badges. Adding an expiration date is a common best practice when issuing credentials, licenses, and badges. The expiration date on the badge is tied to the length of the appointment and may not exceed five years. For non-US citizens, this expiration date cannot exceed the end dates of required documentation. This process provides an active versus passive means of managing badges to ensure individuals who have a badge still need them, and allows us the opportunity to ensure badges are updated with current pictures, technology, etc. If you do not have a printed expiration date on your badge, please request a badge appointment here.
The Berkeley Lab badge serves a dual purpose: as an identification badge and as a Berkeley Lab access card. Badges are issued upon verification of employment or affiliate status, and are programmed according to status.
Badges with expiration dates are automatically deactivated upon completion of the appointment. Upon termination of employment or affiliate status, the badge must be returned to the Site Access Office. All lost or stolen badges must be reported to the Site Access office as soon as possible.
Why Wear a Badge?

LBNL currently does not support HSPD-12 / UPIV badging. If you have been requested to obtain an uncleared HSPD-12 / UPIV badge, please seek sponsorship through the requesting agency. For any additional questions, contact Blair Edwards, bedwards@lbl.gov.HSPD-12 / UPIV Badging
